Last Minute Valentine’s Day Gifts, that’s better than Flowers and Chocolate

Before you go Marie Antoinette on me, I love flowers and chocolate , especially the chocolate part BUT when it becomes repetitive, you want something new. So I have compiled a list that’s suitable for both men and women that will bring a smile to your partner’s face.

-Edible Arrangements : delicious, and kind of like flowers and chocolate together !

-Books! Lots of Books! Go to the bookstore, read while browsing, spend time with each other while lost in another world 💛💛

-Sephora or Ulta’s gift card: you can thank me later. Makeup, skincare & perfumes/cologne?? Yep!

-Indoor Sky diving; something your partner will remember without actually wanting to kill you for taking him/her for the REAL skydiving

-Jewelry: Alex and Ani bracelets are amazing. The new Apple watch? maybe even a RING? **wink wink**

-Private Chef for the evening if you want to wine and dine

-Spa: unlimited wax pass ? YES! Mani and Pedi? YES, Facials & Massages? YES

-Fuzzy Sock, Hats & Gloves : Keeps him/her warm when you’re not there

-Candles and Bath Bombs, I can a see a relaxing evening in your future!

Hope these item gives you a clue and remember to celebrate love everyday.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Ode to Summer 2017

Woke up this morning, and after two days of staying indoors, I had to get out today. (Well I have to be at work, so that will require my  “staycation” to be over). The snow was depressing and as I waited for my ride, I started dreaming of what summer would feel like right now.

Here is my impromptu ode to summer 🌞🌻🌴

Ode to Summer 2017

I’m absolutely imagining what the summer sun will feel like on my skin,

How my feet will be happy to step into some open toe sandals,

How I’d wear a romper and grab a light jacket for that full blast NYC bus AC,

How I’d quickly wipe down the sweat running along my laid baby hair as I wait for the S52 bus,

How the salty cool ocean breeze will blow around me as I frolic in my bathing suit,

How the mango flavored Popsicle will taste as I kick up my leg and read as the sun goes down,

How the girls and I will gather after a full meal of BBQ & Jerk chicken and play cards,

How much I’m missing you, summer. I’m anxiously awaiting your return

🌞

Fears and Self-Promo

Rationally, I know as a small start up-ex: blogs, freelance mua, designer, photographer-self promo is vital but it also takes a lot of guts to do. I would consider myself outgoing and real. I’ll tell it like I see it because life is too short to beat around the bushes. But as bold as I’m, one would assume that I mimic that attitude when promoting my blog.

Nope, I don’t.

Often times, I’m just telling my very small cirlce of close friends about my blog and my future plans for it. I get excited to announce the new camera I bought, the new books I want to buy, the YouTube channel I’m starting soon, and so on. You get the idea that I don’t let any details slip away. I’ll let them know everything about a book and the blog even though they don’t read for leisure as much as I do. But I still do not let others know.

I have asked myself why do I hold back on self promotion? Why don’t I shout to all my 300+ “friends” on Facebook that I have a book blog and want their ‘follow-ship’ (totally just made that up) ? Why don’t I post more often on my personal Instagram and give myself a shout out? And why don’t I tell some of the new people I’ve met since the blog opened up in June 2016 about my lovely blog??

I dont know.

I don’t have one particular earth shattering, philosophical answer that will make me sound deep. But I know that I’m shy about my work. In nervous about what others think of my type of art. I’m shy about the blog because it won’t be my first blog. It is my first blog with full on focus about books and my longest running blog (I believe). I think maybe I’m afraid of failing. I didn’t keep up with my previous blog because I lost interest in posting and made excuses. So my subconscious mind believes that if many people who knows me doesn’t know about the blog, then I won’t have to explain when I stop blogging. With that mindset, I’ve already started thinking this blog will fail. I’m creating a fluffly cushion to fall into if this blog doesn’t succeed and that’s the worst mindset I can have for something I want so bad.

I’m taking a step to stop myself from standing in my own way. I recently posted a picture of my blog on my a Snapchat story. I am going to revive my Facebook and reach out to my audience there and see if they want to support the blog. I’m going to open up to outsiders about the blog and how they can find a book for themselves or others on it. No more hiding from the crowd and limiting my chances.

I’m also writing this post because now I must do what I say. Its on the internet and it stays forever!

Seriously, I’m happy that I can question myself and make plans. So here is a shout out:

Using my NetGalley Account

I have some news to share!!!

First, I need to apologize for my lack of updating the blog throughout November but I swear, November was just a different kind of busy. I just want to let my Pals know that you can keep up with the blog on Instagram, because I try to update that atleast on a daily basis.

Second, I finally updated and began using my NetGalley account!! NetGalley is a place for authors to send and have their book, which is yet to be released, reviewed by “professional readers” (like myself 😁) and some editors also use it as well. It is a great system to have and it helps both the reviewers as well as the review-ee, (Totally doubt if that’s an actual word).

Why I’m using it again: I’ve been so busy with school work and figured to start putting some things in place for the blog with school break coming up. NetGalley is something I’ve wanted to continue doing and this will be the perfect time to start. It would safe me lots of money on books I’d have to buy because I’ll be sending requests for books that I have interest in and if I’m approved, that’s a free book right there! I’ve already been approved to review 4 out of the 7 books that I requested for. Another reason is that it’s a great way to influence what books are getting released and giving honest feedback on why something works or not in the book.

NetGalley is very easy to navigate for anyone who is interested. The copies you’ll receive are e-copy. I use my Kindle account to receive mine but there are other sources if you don’t use Kindle.

I also have many things I want to implement on the blog to make sure I’m reaching my goals in regards to the blog. So, be on the look out for more updates and changes real soon!

Happy Holiday’s,
❤

October, What it brought me and Book Wrap Up

Before we get to our Book Wrap Up, allow me to rant a little bit, please 😊

October 2016 is gone😳 but it was a great month to me. I learned that I was stronger than I thought I’m yet also very fragile. Stronger because I took on a new challenge in my life that I swore to avoid at all cost and I’m learning that with time, I will overcome my worries for it. I usually shy away from things I know or believe I might not be successful with and I realized that I’m selling myself short.I remind myself that I’m a very young woman in a ever changing world. I will grow, make mistakes and learn as each day goes by because I will not let my failures define me.

I almost let the same fear stop me from establishing my blog. I ask myself now “why did you wait so long to do this?” But you know what, atleast I started it.

I also noticed that I hide some of my feelings, tuck them away and don’t deal with it. I’m acknowledging this flaw but I have a long way to go to eradicate it from my personality.

November 2016, I’m welcoming you with open arms and looking forward to the growth you’ll bring forth.

Let’s get to my Book Wrap Up party which was extremely small! I only ready 2 books off my Oct TBR list and 1 book from my college class assignment which I fell in love with. Like where have I been without this book? I plan on doing a writing about the book but I need to give it my undivided attention.

September Book WrapUp

I have my very small September reads🙈. This was probably my worst month of reading because I was so not prepared for the amount of work from school, my job and new changes that occurred this month.

I barely scratched the surface of my TBR list. I didn’t add #When with this pic cause that was a library borrow that has since been returned.

I promise to make it all up in October.

Here are my ratings of the books.

Shiny Broken Pieces: ❤❤❤❤❤
Chinua Achebe: ❤❤❤❤❤
When : ❤❤❤❤

The only review currently available on the blog is When, so please be patient with me as I try to finish up the others.

How was your September TBR list? Did you read any book you’ll love to recommend?

Please leave your comments down below.

Happy Reading,
